40 Years Celebrating Men!
This year we celebrate both the men who founded CMG 40 years ago and each man for whom CMG is a community nourishing his heart and fostering his growth. Originally, CMG raised consciousness for men striving to support the female partners and children in their lives. CMG was founded to raise men’s consciousness and liberate men from social scripts that did not fit their lives. CMG became a place where gay and bisexual men began to flourish within the men’s movement. As gay and bisexual men, we recognize that our sexual orientation is not a disease, not a mental health problem and not a sin. Being gay or bisexual is a biological reality- a blessing that allows us to embrace, support and love one another across race, ethnicity, and gender expression. CMG has made itself a place where men who grew up as outsiders feel welcomed and at home. CMG is a place to heal wounds when needed, to find and amplify our voices, to bask in our right to love, and to experience the reality that cooperation with other men is a powerful way to build healthy community.
CMG is about creating experiences that help us know ourselves better. These are experiences of connection, fun, challenge and growth. In the midst of CMG activity, there is also space to be introspective. We can choose to attend or lead a workshop, cuddle in a puppy pile, swim, hike, play, or create. Each man creates his own menu of experiences. Each man gets to name those experience and the feelings triggered or choose to leave those feelings unnamed.
Each man who attends a CMG grows roots connecting him with other men as we grow together, creating our shared community. You will be asked to be a full member of the CMG community by contributing some of your labor to make this a special weekend. CMG thrives because of the contribution we all make as volunteers – we love it!
40 Years Celebrating Men is a wonderful reason to join Gathering 92! Come join us as we meet for the first time at the Community of the Great Commission camp in the beautiful Sierra Foothills in Foresthill about 50 miles northeast of Sacramento, Aug. 24-27 (the weekend before Labor Day weekend this year).
The Community of the Great Commission camp nestles in a beautiful, dense pine forest. If you enjoy tent camping – bring a tent ($50 discount). The standard accommodations are basic cabins in the forest: 5 bunks, 10 men per room. There are a few beds in the lodge buildings available as an upgrade for an extra fee. There is room in the parking lot for a few RVs depending on the size (no hookups). All accommodation options are available first come (registered) – first served. If you think you may want one of the very limited number of upgrades, register as soon as possible.
